The Innovation Village is a rapidly growing startup ecosystem in Uganda, and as it reaches its 5-year milestone, the brand sought a unique approach to telling its story. A journey that is also a celebration of a visionary partnership between The Innovation Village and Mastercard. The journey was translated into an engaging and innovative Coffee Table Book.

The anchor idea was to metaphorically equate this journey to a tough mountain climb because for The Innovation Village, the mission to create an entrepreneur-centric ecosystem in Sub-Saharan Africa was their Everest. We designed this metaphor into an immersive tactile book. The book was divided into sections that drew parallels from mountain climbing training.

In this digital age, a printed version of the book offers a delightful way to reflect on one's own path—a journey of entrepreneurship that embodies Grit, Guts, and Glory. Our goal was to create an engaging book that not only tells the story but also actively involves the audience in discovering it through innovative print methods and techniques. 

From the cover treatment to the meticulous attention given to milestones and highlights, each page unfolds as a unique narrative. We also placed a special focus on showcasing a select group of exceptional entrepreneurs who are making a significant impact on the African landscape. Each page was a delicate craft of storytelling through design and words.

A Sleek & Stunning Cover:
The goal was to capture the attention of the reader and make them wonder with the very first look of the book. We created a premium Acrylic cover for the book with Spot UV print of the title and an inner cover sporting the image of an entrepreneur atop a mountain looking intently at his destination. The transparent acrylic with the secondary cover as the image completed the story in unison.

To communicate the key milestones of The Innovation Village’s journey in tandem with the mountain climbing metaphor, we created a collapsible fold interaction that when opened, showed each milestone and together looked like a challenging mountain summit. The idea was to share how impossible dreams are made possible one passionate step at a time.

For us, the impact created by The Innovation Village and its initiatives were the peaks conquered, and important data that needed special attention thus we created a canvas of a complete mountain range across two pages and then highlighted the impact created.

This ensured important data generates intrigue and captures attention.

A page which was central to the book and celebrated the protagonists of The Innovation Village - their entrepreneurs. We wanted to bring complete focus to them and their stories. The idea was to create a spotlight feel, thus their mugshots and their businesses took precedence and on unfolding, their stories came in full view.
